Pet Shops
Why you should not
buy your puppy from a pet shop
You are probably wondering "what is wrong about buying from a
pet shop?" There is a lot that goes on "behind the scenes" that many
pet shops do not want you to know about. Have you ever wondered
where they get the supply of puppies to sell? The
majority of pet shops get their puppies from what are called "Puppy Mills".
A "puppy mill" is a place where many dogs are kept with the sole purpose of
breeding for profit. The conditions that these poor animals have to endure are
horrendous. They freeze in the winter and swelter in the summer.
Females are continuously forced to have litter after litter and if they can
not produce the puppies desired, they are disposed of.
Food is usually so void of any nutrients that the teeth of the dog rot very
early of age.
To save money, many dogs go with out receiving any
veterinary care.
Dogs are forced to spend their entire lives locked in a cage that barley
accommodates their size.
You should only buy from a reputable breeder. This
will eliminate the need for thousands of dogs to spend their life in a puppy
mill, just to produce puppies for pet shops around the country.
Why a reputable breeder?
A reputable breeder will always take responsibility for breeding a
particular litter. The dog should never see a dog pound because a
reputable breeder will always take the dog back. A reputable breeder
will breed for the health and longevity of the breed.
